About

My favorite class in my BS in Economics at Texas A&M was econometrics, and since graduating I have learned how markets price risk by taking part in them. Since January 2019 I have managed my own accounts and traded futures, FX and gold, learning technical analysis through in-person courses at Online Trading Academy. While I was taking those courses and trading my own account after A&M, I also worked as a delivery driver. I then went back for formal training: an MS in Finance from the University of St. Thomas (May 2026, GPA 3.8), where graduate work in Mergers & Acquisitions, Financial Modeling and reading financial statements filled in the corporate side of what I knew from trading. I sit for CFA Level I in November 2026.

I taught myself to build analysis tools with Python and SQL. The Rice University FinTech Bootcamp (Jun – Nov 2021) didn't make me a proficient coder on its own, but it gave me the foundation and taught me to learn from library documentation instead of memorizing code. By the time I started my MS in Finance at St. Thomas (Aug 2024 – May 2026), that background made my projects far more interesting. Our capstone assignment was to optimize a single portfolio; I figured it would be more interesting to build an app that could optimize any portfolio. That sent me down the path of extending it one feature at a time, testing each step, until it became a desktop analytics app with DCF valuation, Monte Carlo and 316 automated tests. After applying for a derivatives underwriting role, I built a counterparty credit simulator to learn what the job involves, ending each case in a written approve or decline memo. I have also built an SPX options income strategy, which I backtested, live-tested and paused when live results drifted from the backtest, and a crypto trading terminal with VaR backtests and crash replays. I also manage several financial accounts and recommend strategies for them at my family's medical practice.

I use frontier AI models (current GPT, Claude, Gemini and Grok-class models) every day and know how to use them properly: clear prompts, checking every output against the source data or a test, and building AI-assisted research and coding workflows. My projects were built that way. The AI speeds up the work, and I check what it produces before I rely on it.

For a trading desk, a markets or quant analytics team, or an M&A group, that means someone who learns a new method quickly, builds and checks the model, and explains the conclusion in writing.

Work

Experience

Independent Market Research & Portfolio Management · Self-employed

Jan 2019 – Present · Houston, TX

  • Run my retirement and taxable accounts on written rules I set myself: target allocation, scheduled rebalancing, tax-loss harvesting and a note on the reason for each decision.
  • Taught myself technical analysis through in-person Online Trading Academy courses in supply and demand, futures, forex and options, then applied it to my own account.
  • Traded Micro E-mini S&P 500 futures, FX (mainly EUR/USD) and gold; ran the same candlestick momentum rules on gold almost every day, and learned to step back and rework a strategy after a drawdown.
  • Coded a momentum-based 0-DTE SPX options strategy in Python, backtested it, then live-tested it for about seven weeks, sized by risk at 1–4 contracts per trade; when it fell far short of the backtest I paused it, and my post-mortem traced the gap to look-ahead bias in the original backtest and trading costs larger than the signal's small edge.

Financial Accounts Manager · Family medical practice

2023 – Present · Houston, TX

  • Manage several financial accounts and recommend strategies for them.

Activities & special interests

Bitcoin mining · 2021 – Present

Began with a 6-GPU rack mining altcoins and converting the output to BTC; after a February 2022 mining conference in Round Rock and a tour of Riot's Rockdale facility, moved to an Antminer S19j Pro (104 TH/s). I weigh Texas power cost against output.

Rice University FinTech Bootcamp · Jun – Nov 2021

Python, machine learning and blockchain (smart-contract) programming coursework; learned to work from library documentation instead of memorizing code.

Kappa Sigma, Texas A&M

Elected leadership positions; Wicked Woods fundraising for veterans.

The BADD Project · 2016 – 2018

Brothers Against Distracted Driving: advocated for a College Station texting-while-driving ban.

♞

Puzzle-solving suite

6 apps

Engines that look at a position and find the answer.

Cube Solver logo

Web app · TypeScript · three.js

Set up any cube from 2x2 to 7x7 by scrambling, turning or painting stickers, and get solutions (optimal on the 2x2 and 3x3), next moves ranked by distance, and step-by-step breakdowns, all animated on a 3D cube you can grab, turn, zoom into and take apart.

Chess Solver logo

Web + desktop app · TypeScript · Stockfish 18

Best moves for chess and checkers.

Sudoku Solver logo

Web app · TypeScript · Vite

Play, generate or type in any 9x9 Sudoku. Solve it instantly, or get hints that name the trick a person would use next, outline the squares involved and explain it in plain words, then watch the whole puzzle solved step by step.

Card Solver logo

Web + desktop app · TypeScript · Vite

Six card games solved: Poker, Blackjack, Kuhn poker, Video poker, Gin rummy and Cribbage.

Word Solver logo

Web app · TypeScript

Five-letter guess helper and word finder.

Connect Solver logo

Web app · TypeScript

Perfect play for Connect 4 and tic-tac-toe.

🎬

Media suite

4 apps

Four standalone, local-first video tools, each built for its own job: GifSmith makes GIFs, ClipSmith cuts and reframes clips, CaptionSmith captions on-device, and MediaSmith is a short-form video editor. Each one runs in the browser too.

GifSmith logo

Desktop app · TypeScript · Tauri

Fast, local-first desktop app for macOS and Windows that turns a slice of any video, local or from a link, into a high-quality animated GIF. Trim, crop, boomerang, presets. No accounts, no telemetry, no ads.
